I love using music when I teach grammar in my ESL classes.
I have made some simple activities that I would like to share.
Let's get started with an activity I made just this week!
Adele-If it hadn't been for love...
My first lesson is for THE THIRD CONDITIONAL.
It uses an Adele song called "If it hadn't been for love..", a bluesy song with a great rhythm.
Procedure
Print the Lyrics https://www.lyricsfreak.com/a/adele/if+it+hadnt+been+for+love_20910341.html
And cut up the lyrics into strips.Make enough for each group.
1. Put into groups of 3 or 4.
2. Listen once without the lyrics.
3. Listen with lyrics.
4. Give out the cut up strips of the lyrics
5. Have them listen and put the song lyrics in the correct order.
Follow up with vocabulary and story explanations.
- What did she do for love?
- parole, 44, four walls, jailhouse, hitchhike....
Explain the use of "woulda" as a informal pronunciation of "would have".
Explain the idea of regret and how we can use the third conditional for that.
