"If Today was your Last Day"-Nickleback and the Unreal Conditional( Second)

Sorry for the long break in posting. Life is busy sometimes.

The Canadian band Nickleback are known for their intense rock sound and the lead singer's gravelly voice. Here in Canada there is a attitude of " you either love 'em or hate 'em" and no in between.

Here is a video with the band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrXIQQ8PeRs

My method for using  this song is quite simple. I use it to follow up a lesson I do on Second Conditionals. I want to focus on the opposite to truth/unreal idea. I also teach the use of was/were in the conditional. This song helps demonstrate the informal was.
Step One: I play the song and the students watch the video and listen.Repeat if needed.
Step Two: Elicit what the song is about and what the band is asking the listeners.
Step Three: Listen to the video with the lyrics on the screen. Elicit more and explain the song and vocabulary.

Finally: I have the students discuss in small groups what they would do if today were their last day. We share our ideas with the class. Low prep! No handout required.

Of course a sing along at the end to finish up the lesson.
